The William Smith swimming and diving team broke a six-year-old record and sits in ninth place after the first day of the UNYSCSA Championships at Webster High School.
In the morning prelims, the 200-yard medley relay team of first-years Emily Morosky and Lia Duffy and sophomores Heidi Gordon and Casey Sherwin posted a time of 1:52.63, more than a second faster than the school record established at the 2005 state championship by Charlotte McIntosh ’07, Jenny Fowler ’05, Becky Grossman ’05, and Meghan Mosher ’08.
In the evening finals, Morosky, Duffy, Gordon, and Sherwin went 1:53.02 to finish eight.
Duffy and Sherwin also advanced to the consolation finals in the 50 freestyle. Duffy swam a season’s best time of 24.96 in the morning and 25.07 in the evening to place fourth in her heat and 12th overall. Sherwin, like Duffy, swam her best time of the year before lunch (25.24) and tied for 13th place in 25.29 at night.
The four-day championship continues tomorrow, Feb. 24.
