Volunteers Sought at Boys and Girls Club

Do you always dominate at the ping-pong table? Do you think chess is definitely cooler than football? Or maybe finger painting is totally your thing. If so, then the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva presents an awesome opportunity for you to give back to the community.

The Boys and Girls Club is looking for volunteers who would be willing to give up a few hours a week to support the youth of our community. Volunteers can help in a variety of ways; students can work with either 5-10 year olds or 11-14 year olds by being a homework tutor, a ping-pong instructor, a chess club advisor, art room adviser among many other options. There are positions available for students who want to work with young girls and boys as a Smart Girls Coordinator or a Passport to Manhood coordinator.

The Boys and Girls Club was founded to empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential, says Kelsey Lagana from the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning.

“As college students we have a unique responsibility to encourage and inspire youth to develop dreams that we have already had the opportunity to begin to follow. The connection made between the children and the HWS students is a meaningful and great learning experience for everyone.”
