Swimming and Diving Break Record

For the second day in a row, the William Smith College swimming an diving team produced a record-breaking swim at the UNYSCSA Championship Meet at Webster High School. The Heron 400-yard medley relay team broke the school record, twice.

In the morning prelims, Casey Sherwin, Lia Duffy, Heidi Gordon, and Lauren Morosky turned in a time of 4:09.21, lowering the 1-year-old school mark by a quarter of a second. In the evening’s finals, the quartet dropped nearly another second, touching the wall in 4:08.41 to finish second in the consolation final (10th overall).

William Smith also enjoyed a strong showing in the 200 freestyle relay. Duffy, Sherwin, Amanda Woods, and Morosky placed fifth in 1:40.35.

A pair of Herons, Gordon and Alisha Rexford, also reached the finals of the 100 butterfly. Gordon qualified for the consolation finals with a career best 1:00.71 and lowered her time to 1:00.02 in the evening, finishing 3rd (11th overall). Rexford also swam a pair of career best times, qualifying for the third level final with a time of 1:02.82 and finishing second (18th) in 1:02.67.

At the midway point of the four-day meet, William Smith is in ninth place with 201.5 points, 1.5 points behind eighth place Skidmore. Ithaca leads the 14-team field by 23.5 points over Stevens.
