Svec comes to William Smith following five seasons as the head coach of the University of Albany women’s lacrosse team. In 2010, she led the Great Danes to a 13-3 season, earning the America East Conference regular season title. Svec was selected 2010 America East and 2010 North Region Coach of the Year. Before becoming the head coach, Svec served as an assistant at the University of Albany for one year. She also spent a year as the assistant coach at her alma mater, Ohio University.
A four-year starter for the Bobcats, Svec brings a great deal of playing experience to her position. She served as the team captain in both her junior and senior seasons. Svec was a two-time all-conference first team selection and was named to the all-region team in 2001 and 2002. She also garnered all-academic honors and was named to the all-conference honor roll as well as the IWLCA honor roll. In her Bobcat career, Svec set program records with 180 goals and 56 assists for 236 points. She also recorded 83 caused turnovers, 148 draw controls and 198 ground balls, all program records. In 2003, Svec earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in psychology.
A native of Vineland, Ontario, Svec served as the captain of the 2009 Canadian National Team that won a bronze medal in Prague, Czech Republic. She was also a member of the 2001 and 2005 World Cup teams that finished in fourth place. Additionally, Svec earned a bronze medal with the 1999 U19 World Championship team that competed in Australia.
