Herons blank Dickinson

The William Smith tennis team posted its third straight 9-0 victory this afternoon. The Herons defeated Dickinson College in the third match of their spring break trip.

The Herons improve to 5-1 this season, while the Red Devils are now 2-3. At the top doubles spot, junior Joanie Hilton and sophomore Kiara Ocasio defeated their Dickinson opponents, 8-5. Junior Jess McCue and junior Katie Serock teamed up for a close 9-8 victory at No. 2, and sophomore Remy Raevsky and sophomore Hallsey Leighton wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3.

At No. 1 singles, senior Amanda Slack defeated Dickinson’s Alysia Rodgers 6-3 in the first set, and then dropped the next 6-1, but rallied for a 10-1 win to secure the victory. Junior #Casey Kennedy posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2, and Ocasio triumphed at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3.

Hilton and senior Melissa Slack each registered 6-1, 6-1 wins over their Red Devil opponents at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Leighton secured a 6-1, 7-5 win over Madeline Atholtz at No. 6.

The Herons will wrap up their spring break trip with a match against Principia tomorrow, March 17 at 11 a.m.
