The Professionals in Residence series will welcome Ilka Chavez, executive secretariat for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, on Thursday, March 31. Chavez will deliver a talk on “Careers in Health Care & U.S. Government” at 7 p.m. in the Sanford Room, during which she will talk about changes in hiring practices in the government – particularly those that will allow more students to be hired for internships and jobs.
Earlier that day, Chavez will also hold a pre-health/science majors information session from noon to 1 p.m. in Napier 101 followed by one-on-one sessions from 1 – 3 p.m. in Trinity 210. E-mail email@example.com for an appointment.
Chavez joins HWS through the Annenberg Speakers Bureau of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. She received her degree in Health Services Management from State University of New York Institute of Technology and a graduate degree from Baruch College.
Sponsored by the Salisbury Center for Career Services, Professionals in Residence offers opportunities for students to speak one-on-one with individuals with successful careers who are willing to share some tips of the trade that come only with individual experience.
