Sailors take 5th at Dellenbaugh

William Smith sailors claimed fifth place out of 17 teams at the Dellenbaugh Women’s Trophy in Providence, R.I. over the weekend. Members of the HWS sailing team also earned a 13th place finish at the Southern New England Team Race in New London, Conn.

In Providence, senior Caroline Patten, first-year Jane Rew, and sophomore Kathryn Moloney finished first in the A Division. They placed in the top 5 in eight out of their 14 races. In the B Division, senior Kelly Crane, senior Holly Huffine, and first-year Adele Huffine posted an 11th place finish.

Senior Ike Babbit, senior Sam Padnos, sophomore Tim Zacher, first-year Morgan Gould, first-year Julia Oak, first-year John Darby, and first-year Mike Deady competed for HWS at the Southern New England Team Race. HWS recorded wins over Coast Guard Academy, Connecticut, Dartmouth, and SUNY Maritime to claim 13th overall.

The sailing team will be back on the water April 9-10, competing in Ithaca, N.Y., for the Prosser Trophy and in New York, N.Y., at Fordham.
