The William Smith tennis team came out on top of a close match with St. Lawrence this afternoon played in the Saints’ Newell Field House. The Herons topped St. Lawrence, 5-4.
William Smith improves to 10-3 overall. The Saints are now 6-2 this season. The Herons came out of doubles play with one point. Sophomore Hallsey Leighton and sophomore Remy Raevsky paired up for an 8-4 win over Justine Rusk and Sara Willett.
In singles play, the Herons posted wins at Nos. 3-6. Sophomore Kiara Ocasio led William Smith with a close 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 victory at No. 3. Junior Joanie Hilton also faced tough competition at No. 4, but secured the win by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Senior Melissa Slack topped Willett 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Raevsky defeated Rusk 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Herons will be back in action on April 16, when they travel to play Cortland at 1 p.m.
