Groah ’04 Award Finalist

Jay Groah ’04, an agent with Coldwell Banker Faith Properties in New Hartford, N.Y., has been selected as one of 50 semi-finalists for Realtor® Magazine’s annual Web Choice Award, where readers select their favorite Realtor® among the 50 finalists for the 30 under 30 issue. Given by the National Association of Realtors, the award highlights young leaders in the industry. Officials choose 50 real estate agents, who they believe are most qualified, from among more than 500 applicants, then put the matter to a public vote online. Qualities considered include business success and leadership activities, innovation and perseverance, and the personal history of applicants. In addition, judges seek diversity of gender, ethnic background, location, and business niche. Winners will be announced in May.

For his profile on Realtor Magazine’s website []Groah wrote: “”I love being on stage, on camera, and in front of an audience. This year, I developed a video blog series for real estate, which allows me to get great information on real estate across to a wide platform, and also enables me to have some fun on camera. I’m working on a real estate miniseries that shows the differences between myself and my competition using a bit of good ol’ slapstick humor. I also maintain a great Web site and Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter accounts.”

Groah earned his B.A. in geoscience and environmental studies. During his time at HWS, he was a member of the Writing Colleagues program and the Orange Key society, and studied abroad in Ecuador. In addition, he was the recipient of two scholarships – the John K. Walker Endowed Scholarship and the Right Reverend Robert Claflin Rusack ’47 Scholarship – recognizing students with a history of leadership and public service. He began his career as a teacher working part-time in real estate, having taught science, French and Spanish at high schools in upstate N.Y. before deciding to make a career change to realty full-time.
