Lucas Quoted on Vice Presidential Debate

DeWayne Lucas, assistant professor of political science and a panelist on the presidential election for the Finger Lakes Times, was quoted in the Oct. 6 FLT story “Panelists split on who had upper hand.” Lucas saw the outcome of the vice presidential debate as a tie, although he said he also believed Edwards achieved the important goal of showing he could do an effective job as vice president.

“I thought both candidates overall did equally well in handling themselves and answering the questions before them,” Lucas said. “The moderator (Gwen Ifill of PBS) generally asked very direct and important questions which highlighted many of the central issues in this election — Iraq, the war on terrorism, the economy, health care and the character.”
