As a culmination of the academic year, as well as a celebration of the graduating seniors and the work that they have done, the Art and Architecture Department is hosting the 2011 Student Art and Architecture Show on the Houghton House estate. An opening reception, including live music, entertainment and refreshments, will be held Friday, April 29, from 7 to 9 p.m.
“The spring show is the biggest art event of the year, and it is all about the students. It is student run, and all of the work is created by students,” explains Assistant Professor of Art and Architecture Christine Chin. The exhibit will include works in paint, sculpture, architecture, photography, print and drawing. There are also site-specific installations by students, including sound and string installations by architecture students.
Assistant Professor of Architectural Studies Kirin Makker explains, “We really want people to experience not just the final products but the whole process, the central lesson of the design studios and a hallmark of the architectural studies curriculum.”
There will be exhibits in all three buildings, including the Davis Gallery in Houghton House and the architectural design studio, the Katherine D. Elliott Studio Art Center and the Goldstein Family Carriage House.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The show will run through Sunday, May 15.
