Statesmen net Liberty League honors

Sophomores Bruce Grant and Alex James earned all-conference honors in a vote of the Liberty League men’s tennis coaches. Grant was one of two student-athletes to merit first team recognition in singles and doubles, while James received first team doubles praise.

Hobart’s top singles player, Grant has played in the No. 1 spot since arriving on campus. He was 7-15 this year, including a 6-12 mark in the spring. At the Block H Dinner on April 25, Grant was presented with the tennis team’s William A. Walley ’61 Trophy for sportsmanship, team work, individual play, and leadership. He earned honorable mention All-Liberty League honors in singles and doubles last season. Grant has a 13-26 career singles record.

In doubles, Grant and James produced an 11-11 record in the top spot. They were an All-Liberty League honorable mention pairing last season with a 6-13 record.

Playing at No. 3 and No. 4 in the lineup, James is 22-17 in singles action over the past two seasons.

Hobart finished the season with an 11-10 record and placed third in the Liberty League Tournament.
