Temple Challenge Cup draw | Team Blog
The Reading Town Regatta served as a warm up for Hobart before the Henley Royal Regatta begins on June 29. Reading Town is a short 800-meter sprint on the Thames River, just upriver from the site of the Henley.
Kent School Alumni won with a time of 2:34 with Hobart two lengths back and just ahead of Four Score and Four (a crew of Yale alumni from Virginia). Both Kent School Alumni and Four Score and Four are competing in the Henley’s Thames Challenge Cup, one level up from Hobart’s Temple Challenge Cup.
Reynaldo Kelly, Maxwell Swagler, Gerry Samson, Jack Trimble, Andrew Cobb, Harald Zurakowski, David Roberts, Peter Nettl, and Coty Burgess powered the Statesmen.
Hobart also entered a coxless pair, Dillon Nachbar and David Grossman, in the Reading Town Regatta. No official results for any of today’s races have been posted on the regatta’s website and attempts to reach the Statesmen delegation have been unsuccessful.
Also today, the Henley Royal Regatta held the official draw. In the Temple Challenge Cup, the top eight crews are seeded and the rest of the 32-team field is filled in with a blind draw. The Statesmen will face Southampton University in the first round of knockout style racing. The winner will take on the winner of the University of London and Newcastle University.
