Marrying her love of Spanish with an interest in media, Christine Abramo ’12 is spending her summer interning at Univision, a Spanish-language media company serving the United States. Univision owns Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión networks, which encompass local TV and radio stations, online and mobile platforms.
“When I first started applying for internships, I was solely looking to the media industry. I knew I was interested in a career in media, but I never thought I would come across a career that encompassed both my desired fields of interest: Spanish and media; Univision is a perfect match for what I am looking for,” explains Abramo.
As an intern, she works for the Client Development Agency Group, preparing proposals and presentation decks for the group. As an intern, she has to complete a project selecting a company or agency that she feels should be working with Univision. After running spending reports and doing some research, she selected Nike and is currently drafting a proposal about why this company would profit from a contract with Univision.
“The atmosphere is great, and the network is growing daily. I strongly believe in the Hispanic community and feel that Univision is the biggest asset to achieving a bilingual society,” asserts Abramo.
While Spanish was a strong interest throughout high school, Abramo’s summer and fall 2010 semester abroad in Spain as well as her Spanish classes at HWS helped to reinforce her love of the language and that field of study. Now, as an intern for Univision, Abramo has found the company that she would like to work for after graduation.
“I would love to work for Univision in the future. The company is growing tremendously and has a lot of opportunities ahead,” explains Abramo.
Abramo, a Spanish and Hispanic studies double major, has a minor in media and society and plays on the William Smith varsity lacrosse team.
