Simrat Randhawa ’12 is interning with Coach and DFS, this summer, an experience that has taken her from the Coach corporate office in New York City to Hong Kong. She started her summer with a one-week orientation in New York with the sales team at Coach International. From there, she spent a week with Coach’s global merchandising team at DFS in Hong Kong. Her third week landed her in the Coach store in the DFS Galleria in Chinachem, Hong Kong. The internship was coordinated through Edward J. Brennan P’06, P’10, CEO of DFS, and Ian Bickley P’14, president and director of the international division of Coach.
“My primary role is to closely observe customers in an effort to gain further insight on their tastes and preferences,” Randhawa says.
Randhawa plans to apply for a more permanent position at both Coach and DFS next year. She says her internship has enabled her to broaden her career goals; she is excited to have discovered the “world of luxury retail” and hopes to further explore what it has to offer.
In 2009, Randhawa worked with PepsiCo as a marketing intern. The following year, she interned with Deloitte Consulting in their strategy and operations division, and in that same year, participated in the HWS Washington, D.C,. off-campus program where she was a research assistant at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
Randhawa ’12 is a double major in economics and international relations. She is the president of the International Student Association, and she tutors fellow students in Hindu via the Self Instructional Language program. In addition, Randhawa has been a resident assistant, a student activities worker, and a member of the William Smith Centennial Committee. She plans to pursue an MBA.
