The William Smith tennis team earned an 8-1 win over host St. John Fisher in its first dual match of the season. The Herons served the Cardinals (3-1) their first loss this fall.
William Smith secured all three doubles points. Senior Joanie Hilton and junior Kiara Occasio teamed up for an 8-1 victory at the top spot. At No. 2, the duo of senior Katie Serock and senior Jess McCue posted an 8-3 win, and sophomore Ellie deMuth and first-year Terumi Greene breezed to an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, Ocasio posted her second win of the afternoon 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2. Hilton topped St. John Fisher’s Marissa Rotondo 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Casey Nicoletti cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4. First-year Haley Wolf blanked Sania Zaki at No. 5 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore Kate O’Connor triumphed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Herons will be back in action on Sept. 24-26, when they host the ITA Northeast Regional Championships at the HWS Tennis Center.
