The Statesmen cross country team finished in second place in its own Hobart Invitational this afternoon. SUNY Morrisville edged the defending champions by just one point.
Hobart finished with 45 team points. The Mustangs posted 44 team points to earn the win, and SUNY ESF took third place with 106 points. SUNY Morrisville’s Austin Townsley finished first, completing the 8-kilometer course in 28 minutes.
Sophomore Weston Traub led the Statesmen across the finish line for the third straight race. He claimed fifth place, finishing the campus course in 28:20. Fellow sophomore Josh Kirkman was next with an eighth place finish in 29:15. First-year Ian Hatch was just one second behind him, taking ninth place in 29:16.
Sophomore Nick Schmidt earned a 10th place finish, crossing the line in 29:30, and senior Shaun Viguerie completed the course in 29:57 for 13th place.
Hobart will next compete at the Houghton Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 24.
