The Hobart and William Smith sailing team took home a second place finish out of 18 teams at the New York Maritime Open in Throggs Neck, N.Y., this weekend. HWS also finished fifth out of 20 at the Nevins trophy in Kings Point, N.Y.
At the New York Maritime Open, sophomores Arielle deLisser and Jane Rew claimed third place in the A Division. The duo finished 11 out of 14 races in the top five. In the B Division, first-year Liana Folger and sophomore Camille Conover finished fourth. They posted eight top five finishes, including three wins.
In Kings Point, senior Austen Anderson, junior Bridget Nannig, and sophomores Mike Deady and Julia Oak sailed to a second place finish in the A Division. They finished in the top five in eight of 18 races and posted two wins. In the B Division, junior John Norfleet and senior Chris Klevan claimed a victory. The pair placed in the top five in 13 races and earned two wins. Junior Tim Zacher finished 12th in the C Division, and earned two wins in his 18 races.
HWS will be back on the water Sept. 24-25 at the Faye Bennet Trophy in Annapolis, Md. Sailors will also compete in Ithaca, N.Y. at the North Fall No. 1, and in Kings Point, N.Y., at the MAISA Laser Qualifier.
