David Podell, M.D., Ph.D., was among the physicians named among the best in the state of Connecticut by Connecticut Magazine in its annual “Top Doctors” issue. Podell is a board-certified rheumatologist and internal medicine physician with the Alliance Medical Group. His practice is located at the Comprehensive Center for Arthritis at Waterbury Hospital, where he previously served as director of medicine. He also serves as a visiting physician of rheumatology at Yale-New Haven Hospital and is an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine.
Connecticut Magazine named 191 Yale-New Haven Hospital physicians to the list. They were among 837 doctors throughout the state selected from the results of a questionnaire sent to 5,000 Connecticut physicians and then combined with Connecticut Magazine’s surveys from 2008-2010. In this year’s survey, the focus was on eight specialties, including four new areas: bariatric medicine, nephrology, plastic and reconstructive surgery and pulmonary medicine, and spans 25 areas of expertise, from allergy and immunology to urology.
Podell earned his B.S. in mathematics and chemistry from Hobart College. A Phi Beta Kappa inductee, Podell was awarded the Robert Beinert Mathematics Award and was president of Epsilon Pi Sigma. He was a member of the football team and worked at the library and as a laboratory assistant. Following graduation from Hobart, Podell attended medical school at University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and did his internship and residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was also a Fellow in Rheumatology at the hospital from 1983-86.
