The Hobart rowing team competed in the Head of the Fish Regatta on Fish Creek Saturday. The Statesmen second varsity eight produced the team’s top finish, capturing a bronze medal in the men’s collegiate JV 8+ event.
Hobart’s No. 2 boat rode a blustery tailwind down the 3,400-meter course, crossing the finish line in a time of 11:13.53. Williams won the race in 10:59.06 followed by Wesleyan (11:02.86). The Statesmen had a comfortable 22.06-second margin back to the fourth place crew, Marist. There were 11 total entries
The Statesmen just missed a podium finish in the men’s collegiate 8+ event. Hobart’s top boat posted a time of 10:56.01, trailing only Williams (10:36.89), Marist (10:40.78), and Wesleyan (10:49.58). The Statesmen finished well ahead of Liberty League rivals RIT (9th), Rensselaer (11th), St. Lawrence (14th), and Skidmore (15th) in the 15-boat field.
In the men’s collegiate novice 4+ event, Hobart finished seventh out of 20 entries, logging a time of 13:42.42, while the Statesmen varsity 4+ placed 10th out of 32 crews in the men’s collegiate 4+ with a time of 12:44.39.
Hobart will wrap up its fall racing schedule on Nov. 5, when the Statesmen compete in the Syracuse Invitational.
