The Davis Gallery at Houghton House will open a new exhibit by Hobart alum Brian Browne ’78 on Friday, Nov. 11. Titled “Eleven, Eleven, Eleven,” the collection features a series of non-objective paintings, acrylic on canvas.
Browne’s work methods vary. He has created his own artistic process of either spontaneous, gestural drawing in paint which is built up, scraped down and revised from session to session until completion, or paint from tubes that is applied directly to canvas and then spread over the canvas in columns from top to bottom.
After earning a B.A. in history from Hobart College, Browne studied sculpture and painting at the Hackley School, University of New Hampshire, Syracuse University and informally, with two New England painters.
The opening reception for the exhibit takes place from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Davis Gallery in Houghton House on Friday, Nov. 11. The exhibit will run through December 8. The gallery will be open Monday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 1 to 5 p.m.
