Herons to Host NCAA

The William Smith College soccer team will host the first and second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championships this weekend, Nov. 12-13. The No. 2 Herons will face Lancaster Bible on Cozzens Field at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Wheaton (Mass.) taking on Salisbury at 1:30 p.m. Saturday’s winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. to play for a spot in the third round.

Tickets are $6 for general admission, $3 for students, senior citizens and military personnel, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Fans unable to make it to Cozzens Field can follow the action online with Live Stats and Live Video. All three matches this weekend will be broadcast by WHWS-FM (105.7  Geneva). The Herons earned the Liberty League’s automatic bid into the 2011 NCAA Tournament after winning their fifth consecutive conference championship. William Smith defeated St. Lawrence 4-0 in the semifinal round and topped Skidmore 3-0 in the championship game. The Herons have a 16-0-1 overall record going into their 25th consecutive postseason appearance and 22nd NCAA Tournament berth.
