The William Smith College soccer team will host the sectionals of the 2011 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship this weekend, Nov. 19-20. The second-ranked Herons will take on No. 17 Middlebury at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 followed by No. 5 Emory playing No. 20 Williams at 1:30 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. to play for a spot in the semifinal round in San Antonio.
Ticket prices are $6 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens, students and military personnel with valid ID, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and under are free.
The Herons advanced to the sectionals after defeating Lancaster Bible 6-0 in the opening round and edging Wheaton (Mass.) 1-0 in the second round. William Smith has an 18-0-1 overall record and is making its 25th consecutive postseason appearance and its 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance.
First-year Dineo Mmutla leads the Herons with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Junior Whitney Frary is right behind her with 21 points on eight goals and a team-high five assists. Senior goalie Amanda Davis is sporting a 0.05 goals against average and a .955 save percentage. She has earned 12 shutouts this season.
The Panthers come to Geneva with a 13-3-2 overall record. Middlebury defeated Lasell 2-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Championship and then topped The College of New Jersey 1-0 in a second round match. Scarlett Kirk leads the Panthers with 28 points on a team-high 14 goals. Claire Nishioka leads the team with five assists. Jocelyn Remmert has seen the majority of time in goal and is sporting a 0.73 goals against average and a .873 save percentage. She has recorded three shutouts.
