The William Smith College basketball team cruised to a 73-22 Liberty League victory over visiting Bard College in Bristol Gym this afternoon. Junior guard Jaimie Rubin led four Herons in double figures with 12 points and a game-high five assists.
Rubin was 5-of-7 from the floor and made her lone 3-point try and her lone free throw attempt. Sophomore guard Erin O’Brien had 11 points while sophomore guard Liz Douglass and first-year forward Chloe Hayter added 10 points apiece.
The Herons (8-7, 4-2) grabbed a season-high 52 rebounds, led by first-year Rachel Johnson’s game-high nine, against just 24 caroms for the Raptors. William Smith matched a season-high with five blocked shots, including four by first-year forward Molly Breen. The Herons also committed season-lows with five turnovers and just six fouls.
The 51-point win is William Smith’s most lopsided victory since beating Keuka by 52 (95-43) on Jan. 29, 1999.
Liz Frued paced Bard (1-14, 0-6) with eight points and five rebounds.
The Herons will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 27, when they visit Rensselaer. The Raptors return home to host Clarkson on the same day. Both games are slated to tipoff at 6 p.m.
