Herons Cruise to 9-0 Sweep of Rochester

The William Smith squash team breezed to a 9-0 victory over the University of Rochester in its final match of the regular season played today at the Smith Squash Center.

The Herons, ranked No. 25 in the most recent College Squash Association Rankings, improved to 7-11 overall. William Smith posted 3-0 wins at every spot in the lineup against the Yellowjackets.

First-year Andrea Tran posted an 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 win at the top spot. Junior Anne Habeckerrecorded an 11-4, 11-2, 11-1 victory at No. 2. Junior Courtney Leous logged an 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 triumph at No. 3. Sophomore Ginny McDermott dominated at No. 4 (11-0, 11-0, 11-1). Senior Katie Riordan notched an 11-0, 11-3, 11-4 win at the No. 5 spot.

Senior Sarah Cutts defeated Rochester’s Suzanne McKenzie 11-4, 11-1, 11-3. First-year Molly Doran topped her Yellowjacket opponent 11-3, 11-2, 11-6 at No. 7, and sophomoreNellie Lindecke cruised to an 11-1, 11-2, 11-0 victory at No. 8. Sophomore Hannah Meyerpicked up an 11-2, 11-5, 11-0 win to round out the Heron lineup.

William Smith will be back in action Feb. 24-26, when the Herons compete in the 2012 CSA Team National Championships.
