The Hobart and William Smith sailing team took fourth out of 10 teams at the St. Mary’s Team Race in St. Mary’s Md., this weekend. William Smith sailors also claimed eighth out of 20 teams at the Navy Spring Women’s Race in Annapolis, Md.
Senior Austen Anderson, senior Sam Blouin, and junior John Norfleet competed as skippers for HWS in St. Mary’s, Md. Junior Bridget Nannig, junior Catherine Pelo and senior Chris Klevan made up the crew. HWS posted a 7-2 record in the first round of competition, picking up wins over Boston College, Georgetown, Navy, Roger Williams, Stanford, Wisconsin, and Yale.
In the second round, HWS defeated Georgetown, Navy, Roger Williams, St. Mary’s and Wisconsin, and suffered four losses for a 12-6 overall mark. HWS advanced to the final four along with Boston College, Georgetown and Stanford. The HWS sailing team lost to Georgetown, but defeated Stanford and was edged by Boston College to finish fourth overall.
William Smith sailors, sophomores Arielle deLisser and Jane Rew competed in the A Division in Annapolis, Md., over the weekend. They claimed sixth place, registering 13 finishes in the top 10 in their 20 races, including seven top five finishes. The pair posted two wins as part of a strong finish to the regatta. They claimed fourth, first, fourth and first place finishes in their final four races. In the B Division, sophomore Brooke Lyon, sophomore Morgan Gould, and first-year Marnie Merrill finished 11th. They posted eight top 10 finishes.
HWS will be back in action next weekend, March 17-18. HWS will compete in Annapolis, Md., at the Truxton Umstead, and William Smith sailors will be on the water in St. Mary’s, Md., at the St. Mary’s Women’s Regatta.
