The Hobart and William Smith sailing team captured second place out of 12 teams competing in the Southern New England Team Race over the weekend.
HWS is tied for 10th in the most recent Sailing World’s College Sailing Co-ed Rankings. William Smith sailors were voted No. 13 in the women’s rankings.
In New London, Conn., at the Southern New England Team Race, senior Austin Anderson, senior Sam Blouin and junior John Norfleet were the skippers for HWS, and junior Bridget Nannig, junior Catherine Pelo and senior Chris Klevan made up the crew.
In Round 1, HWS posted a 9-2 record, picking up wins over Navy, N.Y. Maritime, Connecticut College, Washington College, St. Mary’s, Roger Williams, Tufts, Boston College, and the College of Charleston. HWS advanced to the final round of top 6 teams, where they logged a 2-3 record to finish 11-5 overall. In the final round, HWS notched wins over Boston College and the College of Charleston. Yale claimed first place with a 13-3 overall record.
William Smith sailors also finished 15th out of 17 teams in the Dellenbaugh Women’s Regatta in Providence, R.I., over the weekend.
HWS will be back in action April 7-8 at the Prosser Trophy in St. Mary’s Md.
