The William Smith College tennis team defeated Hamilton College 7-2, snapping the Continentals four-match win streak. With today’s win, the Herons improved to 7-3 overall this season.
Hamilton falls to 6-4 overall. William Smith is ranked No. 16 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region rankings. The Herons came out of doubles up 2-1. Senior Joanie Hilton and junior Kiara Ocasio teamed up for an 8-5 victory at the top spot. Seniors Jess McCue and Katie Serock paired up for an 8-3 triumph at No. 2.
Senior Casey Kennedy led William Smith in singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No 1. At No. 2, Ocasio topped her Hamilton opponent 7-5, 6-2, and Hilton notched a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3. Sophomore Casey Nicoletti topped the Continentals’ Aislinn Shea 7-6, 6-1 at No. 5, and first-year Haley Wolf rounded out the Heron lineup cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
William Smith will be back on the courts on Saturday, April 7, when the Herons host RIT at 11 a.m.
