The Hobart and William Smith sailing team finished second out of eight teams at the 2012 Prosser Trophy over the weekend in St. Mary’s, Md. HWS is ranked seventh in the nation in the most recent Sailing World’s College Rankings Co-ed Poll.
Senior Austen Anderson, senior Sam Blouin, and junior John Norfleet were the skippers for HWS, while junior Bridget Nannig, junior Catherine Pelo, senior Chris Klevan and sophomore Jane Rew made up the crew. HWS posted a 6-1 record in Round 1, picking up wins over Cornell, Navy, N.Y. Maritime, Old Dominion, St. Mary’s and Washington College. HWS’s only loss came at the hands of Georgetown.
In Round 2, HWS picked up five wins and recorded just two losses. HWS defeated Cornell, N.Y. Maritime, Old Dominion, St. Mary’s and Washington College. With an 11-3 overall mark, HWS advanced to the Final 4. Navy, St. Mary’s and Georgetown were the other three teams to make the final.
In the final round, HWS topped Navy, but lost to St. Mary’s and Georgetown. An overall record of 12-5 put HWS is second place. St. Mary’s earned the victory with a 13-4 mark.
HWS will be back on the water April 14-15, when they host the America Trophy on Seneca Lake. HWS sailors will also be competing at the MAISA Spring Open in Annapolis, Md.
