Hobart College first-year Matt Johnson tied for third place in the 45-golfer field at the Utica College Spring Invitational this afternoon. The Statesmen finished third out of seven teams.
On the par 72 Kanon Valley Country Club, Johnson negotiated the course in a seven-over 79, second best round of the season. Sophomore Dillon Sass was three spots back in a three-way tie for sixth place with an 82. First-year Eric Mills and junior Steven Dougherty turned in rounds of 87 and 89, respectively, to round out Hobart’s team score.
Scranton won the team title behind individual medalist Grant Gulick’s 76. St. Lawrence was second eight strokes behind the Royals and 10 in front of the Statesmen. The Saints’ B team was fourth followed by Utica, SUNY ESF, and SUNY ESF B.
Hobart will return to the links on Tuesday, April 10, in the Hamilton Invitational. With tee times beginning at 11 a.m.
