The Hobart College tennis team blanked Ithaca 9-0 in a match played today on the indoor courts in Bristol Field House at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. The Statesmen have extended their win streak to six matches, improving their record to 14-3.
With the Statesmen’s 14th win this season, Head Coach Tim Riskie ties the Hobart mark for most wins by a rookie tennis coach.
Junior Bruce Grant and first-year Michael Fields started things off for the Statesmen, cruising to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Junior Sam DeLuccia and senior Kevin Batesdefeated their Bomber opponents 8-2 at No. 3, and junior Alex James and senior Matt Hurshearned an 8-3 triumph at No. 2.
DeLuccia posted his second win of the afternoon, downing his competition 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Fields logged a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5, and James secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2. Senior Walter Green defeated Justin Levine 6-1, 6-5 at No. 4, and Grant topped Jimmy Newton in a close match 6-2, 6-7 (14-12), 10-8 at the top spot. Hursh secured the sweep, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, April 14 when they host Bard at 2 p.m.
