The Hobart rowing team raced Colgate and Bucknell on Seneca Lake Saturday morning. The Statesmen defeated the Raiders to win the Seneca Cup for the third straight year.
The Hobart varsity eight covered the 2,000 meter course in 6:33.06, defeating Colgate by 2.0 seconds. The Raiders took a boat length lead at the 500 meter mark of the race, but the Statesmen were able to close the gap over the next 1000 meters and outsprint the Raiders at the finish.
In its second race of the day, the Hobart varsity eight posted a time of 6:34.33, but wasn’t able to keep contact with Bucknell’s top crew as the Bison won with a time of 6:25.40.
In the second varsity eight race, Bucknell walked away with a 6.74-second advantage over the Statesmen, recording a time of 6:37.14.
The novice four race was moved to the Cayuga-Seneca Canal, the Bison won that race as well in 5:25.59 to Hobart’s 5:28.46.
Hobart will be back on the water on Saturday April 28 when the Statesmen travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for the Liberty League Championships. Hobart has won six consecutive conference championships.
