Engaging Kids through Fitness

Gennady Julien ’13 is sharing his passion for active living with children at Camp Laurel, where he’s working as a fitness counselor this summer. The camp is located in Readfield, Maine, and focuses on engaging campers in a variety of athletic activities.

“I am interested in all things dealing with the human body, and I hope to go into chiropractics and martial arts instruction after school, so I think this position is a step in the right direction.”

At Camp Laurel, Julien is responsible for a cabin of boys ages seven to 15 and works at the fitness center, helping the campers develop fitness through instruction and games. Additionally, Julien has Type 1 Diabetes and may have the opportunity to help mentor diabetic campers.

At HWS, Julien is a double major in Asian studies and sociology. He is involved in Men Against Rape and Sexual Assault (MARS), the karate club and HWS EMS. He is also a residential assistant and a member of the Druid Society.
