Sports Camps Begin Monday

On Monday, June 25, elementary, middle and high school children from around the country will come to Hobart and William Smith Colleges to advance their athletic skills, spark competition, and most importantly, have fun while participating in the 2012 Day Sports Camp.

The Day Sports Camp, which runs through June 29, is one of 11 camps offered on campus this summer. The Sports Camps provide participants ranging in ages from 7-14 with an opportunity to participate in lacrosse, soccer, golf, basketball, football or tennis.

“The camps provide a core based on instruction and getting better throughout the week while developing the participant’s skills,” says Russell Phillips, assistant Hobart basketball coach and director of the basketball portion of the Sports Day Camp. “We’re going to have fun, it’s going to be a fun environment and we’ll be doing a lot of contests, races and other various activities.”

Each participant will obtain top-class training and instruction from the diverse, experienced camp staff. Within each sector of the camp, participants will be divided into groups based on grade level and ability for the position work and by team for the competitions.

This year the campers will have the option to choose from tennis, golf, basketball, or girls lacrosse in the morning. In the afternoon, participants can choose from soccer or basketball. Afternoon camps will also swim at the Bristol Pool.

The primary mission of the staff members at the camp is to provide the participants with the indispensable skills to become successful citizens, students and athletes. The camp staff provides each participant with a written evaluation designed to contribute to the expansion of the athletes skills.

The price to attend a half-day session is $135 per camper and $235 for participants interested in attending the full day of camp. The full-day price includes lunch.
