Interning for NBC News

This summer, Media and Society Major Kim Goral ’13 is interning with NBC Universal in Washington, D.C., where she is working with the staff of the top-rated “TODAY Show” and “Nightly News with Brian Williams.”

Goral is thrilled to have the opportunity to get such a close look at the production process and discover what it takes to be of one of the leading news sources in the world.

“My goal for this internship is to learn the inner workings of the news production process,” says Goral. “I want to learn and observe from professionals in multiple areas of the news production process from editor to reporter with a special focus on editing and production.”

NBC News has been a leading source of global news and information for more than 75 years. Each week, NBC News provides more than 30 hours of television news programming and is the only broadcast news division with an affiliated cable channel, MSNBC.

Some of Goral’s daily tasks include: selecting and digitalizing footage, assisting in the production of daily coverage, shadowing producers and editors during “Nightly News,” as well as viewing the news broadcast with the NBC staff to gain additional insight on news reporting.

On campus, Goral is also working on a double minor in geoscience and English. She is captain of the William Smith Rowing team and a DJ and newscaster at WHWS-FM.
