With a passion for writing, Erin Minty ’14 pursued an internship this summer at L’Elite Magazine in Boston, Mass. She wrote daily about fashion, style and design.
L’Elite is a fashion magazine that provides readers with up-to-date style tips and information on all things fashion. Minty explains, while Boston is not widely known for fashion compared to New York or Paris, L’Elite is popular in the industry. She says she was also attracted to the magazine’s commitment to service. L’Elite gives all of the profits from subscriptions to charity (this year it will be one related to breast cancer).
In her internship within the editorial department, she was responsible for producing weekly story ideas and concepts, in addition to writing stories. As the fashion intern, she also participated in conference calls with the editors once a week, which she notes was truly an exciting work experience. When she was not writing a story or sitting in meetings, she was on the runway and at photo shoots pulling top designers’ lines off the racks and deciding what labels were to be worn at that shoot.
Minty is grateful for the position and the field knowledge it provided. She hopes that working for such a successful magazine in the type of environment that she loves – fashion-will give her an advantage as she looks to break into the editorial arena after graduation.
A double major in English and writing and rhetoric with a minor in media and society, Minty has been active on campus. She writes for Bon Bon Magazine and is a member of Geneva Heroes, Geneva Community Playground Committee, and HWS cheerleading. She also works as a writing colleague and an orientation mentor.
