The Hobart cross country team finished third out of 13 teams at the sixth annual SUNYIT Invitational held in Utica, N.Y., on Saturday. First-year Patrick Hatheway led the Statesmen across the finish line of the 6-kilometer course with a fifth place finish in his first collegiate race.
It’s Hobart’s best finish at the event since the Statesmen came away with a victory in 2009. Hatheway crossed the finish line in 20:20.2. He was fifth out of 142 runners. SUNYIT’s Derek Struck claimed first with a new course record time of 19:53.3. He topped the previous record of 19:57.00 set by Hobart’s Ben Flanagan ’09 in 2009.
First-year Tyler Rodabaugh finished 29th with a time of 21:50.0. Senior Blake Taylor was the next Statesman across the line, taking 32nd in 22:02.3. The time was a new personal best 6k time for Taylor. Senior Brit Claridge also posted a new personal best 6k time of 22:24.8 for 40th place. Sophomore Max Feldman rounded out the top five Hobart runners, claiming 55th in 22:47.2. Feldman topped his previous best 6k time of 24:03.4.
The Statesmen finished with 125 team points. SUNY ESF captured the team title with 38 points, and SUNYIT placed second with 64 points.
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when the Statesmen compete in the Oswego Invitational. The race is scheduled to being at noon.
