Nazareth College has chosen Monroe County native Daan Braveman as its ninth president. Braveman will take over from the retiring Robert Miller on July 1. Braveman joined Syracuse University College of Law in 1977, and served as dean from 1994 to 2002. He remains on the full-time faculty as a professor of law, but currently is a visiting professor at the Yeshiva University Cardozo School of Law in New York City.
One of the Rochester area's strengths is its number and diversity of colleges, said President Mark Gearan in the Feb. 9 Democrat and Chronicle. “The range is impressive. As we look into the future and as a sheer force for the economy, our role in the region is critically important. I'd very much look forward to working with (Braveman) and looking for ways we can work together.”
According to the article, Nazareth is one of several Rochester-area colleges changing presidents. UR's new president, Joel Seligman, also takes office July 1. The State University College at Brockport hopes to have finalists by next month. Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School could choose a new president in May. And St. John Fisher College is hiring a search firm.
