The Art History Department will host an art auction to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Geneva on Friday, Sept. 21. The brainchild of Maggie Bernay ’13, the auction was inspired by her experience as an intern at the renowned Christie’s Auction House in New York City.
“The idea for an auction here at HWS really took off,” explains Bernay, after she returned to William Smith for her junior year, following the summer internship. She is majoring in art history with a minor in comparative literature and studied abroad in Rome last spring.
Working with Visual Arts Curator Kathryn Vaughn, Bernay asked faculty, students, alums and Geneva community members to donate their art to the auction. The auction will take place at Houghton House on Sept. 21, from 4-6 p.m.
Some of the pieces have been donated by faculty members Michael Bogin, Elena Ciletti and Nicholas Ruth, as well as students Macey Laurick ’13, Chuan Wu ’12 and Jamie Sawyer ’13, and Visual Arts Curator Kathryn Vaughn.
