Stephen Dybas, a professor of photography at the University of Rochester, has photographed his father's battle with cancer. The photographs, both Dybas' pictures and other family photos chronicling his father's life, are on display through Friday, Feb. 18, at the Gallery of the Fine Art and Music Library, at Rush Rhees Library at the University of Rochester.
According to the article featuring the show in the Feb. 10 Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the gathering and taking photographs for the exhibit has been a very cathartic process for Dybas.
“It has been reaffirming both the joys of my father's life and the role he has played in mine,” said Dybas. He is a 1996 graduate of Hobart College, and holds a master's degree from the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester. He has taught photography courses at SUNY Brockport as well.
The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available in university lots after 7 p.m. weeknights and all weekend.
