The Hobart College rowing team opened the 2012-13 season on a high note, sweeping all five races in the HWS Challenge on the Canal.

The Statesmen varsity eight of Sarah Tanzer, Robert McNamara, Rob Nanovsky, Tyler Steving, Jonathan Heinlein, Brett Lawhon, Owen Monahan, Tyler Wilson-Menting, and Nathaniel Shils flew down the 4-kilometer Cayuga-Seneca Canal course in 14:57, 27 seconds faster than Ithaca College and nearly 2 minutes better than Canisius College.

Hobart’s second varsity eight of Nick Snow, Coty Burgess, Nicholas Baca, W. Hunter Holtz, August Wherry, Patrick Ware, Dylan Brodie, Chris DePaola, and Davis Muller puts the team’s depth on display by matching the first varsity’s winning time. The Bombers again took second in 16:34 with Hobart’s third varsity eight finishing third in 16:47.

In the open pairs and quads event, McNamara and Wherry won the day with a time of 17:50, 24 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Sky Drazek, Alexander Sanford, Alexander Vernon, Timothy Griffin, Lion-Robert Creel, Jordan Rooth, Harrison Wasserbauer, Samuel Menchel, and Nicholas Muller posted a winning time of 16:09 in the novice eight race, more than three minutes better than second place St. John Fisher.

The Statesmen varsity four of Erica Stuke, Michael Cichelli, Morgan Robinson, Nick Faiello, and Jordan Mueller completed the sweep, topping Ithaca by 17 seconds seconds (18:44-19:01).
