For the sixth time in the past seven seasons, the Hobart College varsity eight placed in the top 10 at the Head of the Charles, the world’s largest regatta. The Statesmen placed ninth out of 37 crews.
Sarah Tanzer, Robert McNamara, Rob Nanovsky, W. Hunter Holtz, Nicholas Baca, Brett Lawhon, August Wherry, Coty Burgess, and Dylan Brodie covered the 5-kilometer course in 16:15.684. Hobart was 31.48 seconds behind the gold medal winning crew from the University of Virginia and less than six seconds behind eighth place Wesleyan. The Statesmen were 0.3 seconds ahead of 10th place Boston College.
It’s Hobart’s best finish since turning in a sixth place effort in 2010. The one time in the past seven seasons the Statesmen finished outside the top 10 was an 11th place showing in 2011.
Hobart will wrap up its fall racing season on Saturday, Nov. 3, when the Statesmen compete in the Syracuse Invitational.
