WS Soccer Takes on Penn State-Behrend

The William Smith College soccer team will host the first and second rounds of the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship this weekend, Nov. 10-11. The No. 8 Herons will take on Penn State-Behrend on Cozzens Field on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m.

The other first round game between Cortland and Springfield will be played at 1:30 p.m. Saturday’s winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. for a spot in the third round.

Tickets are $6 for general admission, $3 for students, senior citizens and military personnel, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Fans unable to make it to Cozzens Field can follow the action online with Live Stats and Live Video. The tournament program can be viewed here.

The Herons (13-2-3) earned the Liberty League’s automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA tournament after winning their sixth straight conference championship. William Smith defeated No. 25 Union 3-2 in the championship after edging RIT 4-2 on penalty kicks after being tied 1-1 through two overtime periods.

The Lions (12-8) also earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title for the second year in a row. Penn State Behrend defeated D’Youville 1-0 in their semifinal and then edged Pitt Bradford 2-1 in double overtime in the championship game.
