HWS Recognized for Vibrant Community

Hobart and William Smith Colleges have been designated as among New York’s 2012-2013 Colleges of Distinction. As such, the institution is featured in the college guide, “2012-2013 Colleges of Distinction eBook.” Colleges and universities are nominated for participation in Colleges of Distinction by high school college counselors and schools were recognized for excelling in four distinctions: “Engaged Students,” “Great Teaching,” “Vibrant Communities,” and “Successful Outcomes.” The Colleges have received a profile on the Colleges of Distinction website for excelling in all four areas.

According to the guide, a College of Distinction is nationally recognized as an excellent school by education professionals; has a strong focus on teaching undergraduates; features “a wide variety of innovative learning experiences;” and numerous opportunities for personal development through an active campus life; and is “highly valued by graduate schools and employers for its outstanding preparation.”

“Schools designated as ‘Colleges of Distinction’ create well-rounded graduates and are among the very best in the country,” said Tyson Schritter, executive editor of Colleges of Distinction. “While each school is one of a kind, they all share a common theme: they are all a great place to get an education.”

Hobart and William Smith have been included in numerous recent guides such as The Princeton Review‘s 2012 edition of “The Best 376 Colleges,” where HWS were named among the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, and in “The Fiske Guide to Colleges,” as part of the 2013 revised and updated edition. Since 2001, Hobart and William Smith Colleges have moved 16 spots in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, this year coming in at No. 60 in the “National Liberal Arts Colleges” category in its 2013 Best Colleges guidebook. SmartMoney has recognized the outreach and support of its Salisbury Center for Career Services and Professional Development naming Hobart and William Smith as an exceptional investment, listing the Colleges as 10th in its ranking of private “Colleges that Help Grads Get Top Salaries.”
