Poet and Essayist Ely Shipley read from his work at 5:30 p.m on Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Blackwell Room of Demarest Hall. Shipley’s reading was one of many events planned in celebration of the 40th anniversary of women ‘s studies and the 10th anniversary of LGBT studies.
Shipley was the first from an exciting and talented group of young transgendered poets to publish a book with a national press. His first book, “Boy with Flowers,” won the 2007 Barrow Street Press book prize and the 2009 Thom Gunn Award. His poems and lyric essays have been published widely, and he teaches literature and writing at Baruch College-CUNY.
While at HWS, Shipley also gave a Q and A on Friday, Nov. 30, at 4:30 p.m. in the Blackwell Room.
