Committee to Enclose Ice Rink Includes Coach Taylor

Mark Taylor, head Hobart hockey coach, has been appointed by Geneva Mayor Don Cass to a committee to explore enclosing the ice rink at the Geneva Recreation Complex on South Exchange Street. The ice is used for the hockey teams at Geneva High School, the Geneva Youth Hockey programs and is the home of Hobart and William Smith Colleges hockey. Public skating is also offered each winter.

Other members of the committee include Jim Dooley, president and CEO of the Finger Lakes Health System; Steve Wadhams, a youth hockey parent; City Councilors Gary Baxter and Paul Schroeder; and Bernie Lynch, a youth hockey parent who is organizing a citizen's group to see to the enclosure.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges also contributed $540,000 for a 2,700-square-foot addition that includes new locker rooms and offices for the Colleges’ hockey teams.

The efforts to enclose the ice rink were featured in the March 22 Finger Lakes Times story “Push is on to enclose city ice rink.”
