Scott Moves from Sting to Monarchs

Head William Smith basketball coach Olympia Scott joins her fifth WNBA team in eight years, as she was traded from the Charlotte Sting to the Sacramento Monarchs. Scott played in 34 games during the 2004 season with the Sting. She was the defensive captain for Charlotte and was among the league leaders in blocks per 40 minutes this season.

“With Olympia, it's like having another coach on the floor,” Monarchs coach John Whisenant said in the April 27 Sacramento (Calif.) Bee. “She says and does all the right things.”

Scott too is happy with the trade.

“I'm a California native, but I haven't lived here since '98 when I graduated. I'm very happy to be back,” said Scott.

During the offseason, she made her coaching debut, leading William Smith to a conference title and Sweet 16 berth in the Division III playoffs. Scott also was named conference Coach of the Year.
