Four Dedicated Staff Retire

“Barbara Campbell has worked with three librarians and who knows how many presidents because presidents are a dime a dozen,” President Mark D. Gearan said, causing the room to break out in laughter at Campbell’s retirement party. Campbell was among four employees who retired following the 2012-2013 academic year, after having each served the Colleges for more than 25 years.

For 46 years, Campell was acquisitions coordinator in the technical services department of the library. She worked under three librarians during her time at HWS, two of whom attended her retirement party. Her colleagues and friends thanked her for her friendship, service, spirit and for always being full of laughter. Campbell was presented with a sketch of St. John’s Chapel as a gift for her hard work on behalf of the Colleges.

Like Campbell, Linda Breese retired after having worked at HWS for 46 years. She worked as an assistant registrar, helping students with everything from the very crucial course registration to serving as a Public Notary.

Evelyn Sperry, secretary of the Center for Teaching and Learning, has been with HWS for 28 years. In her role with CTL she was essential to the opportunities the center afforded the student body.

As a devoted nurse at Hubbs Heath Center for the past 20 years, Sharon Platzer helped keep hundreds of students healthy throughout each school year.

President Mark Gearan concluded the toasts at Campbell’s retirement party by saying, “It’s a better place because of you.”

This sentiment was echoed by each of the four women’s colleagues.
