Recently completing an internship with the American Pavilion business program at the Cannes Film Festival, Kailee Winslow ’14, is spending her summer working in the film industry.
The Cannes International Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries, from around the world. Winslow secured the position while studying abroad in London during the spring of 2013.
The American Pavilion business program placed Winslow, a media and society major and double minor in studio art and writing and rhetoric, in the brand publicity department of DDA PR.
“During my internship, I worked on various accounts with HP, Lexus, and the Weinstein Company. My main task included liaising and managing journalists at important client events and interviews throughout the festival,” says Winslow.
Winslow’s successful foray into the film industry with Cannes Film Festival led her to seek an internship with the Telluride Film Festival. As a native of Telluride, Colo., the Telluride Film Festival is right in Winslow’s backyard. The networking that Winslow did during the Cannes Film Festival helped her secure an event management internship in her hometown.
Winslow is looking forward to seeing what the directors have chosen to showcase at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. As well as getting some more hands on work in the film industry.
Winslow credits the staff in career services at HWS for their ability to help her structure a great resume.
In addition to getting resume help; Winslow has also taken part in the public relations and advertising trip to New York City. “My first year I took part in the PR and advertisement trip to NYC. I think that was when I decided I first wanted to really go into PR,” says Winslow.
Winslow has created her own company, Winslow PR. The company is currently in its infancy but is an exclusive entertainment and luxury PR firm that specializes in social media, merchandising and event management. She has already secured one client Chloe + Isabel and hopes to launch the website by the end of the summer.
