Temple and RWCT Project Members Present on Active Learning

In Quito, Professor of Education Charles Temple and three colleagues from the Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking Project delivered a week-long workshop on active learning and critical thinking for 95 university and high school faculty in late May. This week Temple and a colleague delivered another week-long workshop in Machala, “The Banana Capital of the World,” at the Universidad Tecnologica San Antonio de Machala, on the coast near the border with Peru. The workshops were supported by the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, the Universad Tecnologica de San Marcos in Machala, and by Santillana, the Spanish publishing company. In Quito, the trainers struggled to keep up their patter in the thin air at 10,000 feet, and in Machala, with tropical heat and humidity–but the workshops were very well received, and the presenters had a delightful time.
